Lola and I went for a run his morning and I saw a woman on the trail when she was hiding a plastic bag with her dog's poop behind some trees. I regret taking my i pod instead of my phone so that I could have taken a picture. People like her are one of the reasons why there aren't more dog friendly places. Anyways, I thought it could be a good opportunity to share with you our "Earthbark's 10 Dog Etiquette Principles"
. By following them, we are not only showing our proper behavior but also will help Earthbark Companion Program to promote dogs to be welcome inside businesses. Hope you can share these principals with other dog lovers.
• I provide my dog with healthy food, fresh water, adequate and clean shelter, veterinary care, regular bathing and grooming, daily exercise and lots of love.
• I always pick up after my dog’s poop - regardless if someone is watching me or not.
• I practice a responsible and serious behavior to prevent unnecessary canine pregnancies that add to animal control burdens –and shelter deaths in my community.
• I maintain a good neighbor policy. I take the necessary precautions to keep my dog inside the house or within proper fences to avoid:
o Digging in neighbors gardens
o Frighten joggers or children
o Annoying neighbors with unnecessary barking, aggressive behavior towards people, plants, other dogs and animals
• My dog is wearing valid licenses and vaccination tags.
• I have taught my dog how to act in a public place.
• I have taught my dog to avoid barking unless he or a person is under a danger situation.
• I respect “keep your pet leashed or held” signals.
• I or the person that handles my dog, are legally and financially responsible for the actions of my dog under the local and federal laws of my country, or under the policies of the” dog friendly” spaces or business establishments I decide to enter with my dog.
• I commit myself to be more “eco conscious” in regards to the products or services I use for my dog in order to help reduce his/her “paw print” in community.
