Whenever I don't feel like taking Lola for a walk or run, I play with her "fetch and retrieve" in the lake. She loves it! And it's never too cold for her, being a Lab the fur type helps keeping her warm. I figure 20-25 minutes of non-stop playing could be the equivalent to a 45-minute walk. Dogs need to exercise every day in spite of weather conditions; it's the least we can do for them after all the joy they bring into our lives. Also, I read an article that stated that playing with your dog helps to create a bond with him/her. Here is the link to the "Fetch and Retrieve" article in case you are interested.
